First Tee began as a way to bring golf to kids and teens that otherwise would not be exposed to the game and its positive values.
Since that time, The First Tee has steadily grown into a robust youth service organization, impacting, influencing and inspiring more than 6.5 million young people through its 220 chapters in the US and four countries.
The First Tee of Northeast Wisconsin Chapter began in 1999 at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour,WI. In 2005 Tim Drossart was approached by The First Tee to aid the struggling chapter. In 2006, the Learning Through Golf Foundation combined with The First Tee of Northeast Wisconsin and brought The First Tee programming to Mr. Golf in De Pere. During that time, Drossart was teaching several thousand students in the Green Bay area through partnerships with the Green Bay Schools and the Boys and Girls Club and other youth organizations. In 2010, Highland Ridge Golf Club was added as an affiliate and the organization reached over 5,000 youth with The First Tee Life Skills Experience teaching values through golf throughout the Green Bay community.
In early 2012, after a meeting with the Home Office, the Board of Directors determined to reorganize. As part of our mission, the Board is focusing on a three-year strategy, which promotes, integrates and delivers the highest quality First Tee programming to Northeast Wisconsin. Through the National School Program in elementary schools, PE programming in middle schools and High Schools, after school programming through the Boys and Girls Club and Salvation Army, our organization hopes to reach thousands of school children with values and character education through golf during the school year. During the summer golf season, many of these same children come to the green grass facilities and are impacted on a weekly and biweekly basis through a mentoring program and The First Tee Life Skills Experience. Over 5,000 youth will have been impacted this year though the Life Skills and The Nine Core Values of The First Tee.
